PAINTING OF THE NEW WORLD

GLOBAL
The selection of the works is focused on the still relevant and growing importance of post-conceptual (primarily figurative) painting. One of the key characteristics distinguishing the work of these artists from that of earlier generations is their deep and earnest reflection of important moments in the history of visual art. Many of the artists' works contain unmistakable references to hyperrealism or show attempts at linking up with classic 19th century academic painting or matching and developing the legacy of classicist painting from the turn of the 18th and 19th century. Some artists even reach back to French Poussin-style painting from the 16th and 17th centuries. In addition to the artists' formal approach in the form of a masterly painting style, the decisive characteristic is a deep-seated interest in the subject, based on a level of personal involvement that goes far beyond postmodern detachment with its empty motifs.
LOCAL
You understand that painting from Czech and Slovak art scene are not of our world. And they do not come from it. It is a systematically Utopian world inhabited by strange creatures which don´t have patronymic or generic name even in the fantastic zoology. Thus they don´t possess and don´t need names, because words are useless for them. If they occur in this world, just look on their shape, not meaning. They exist only in the visual world where everything exists only as invisible. This world even doesn´t have paintings, because it is painting itself. It was born from combinations of lines and color surfaces and its laws are born and change with every evolution phase, which is represented by individual painting. No doubt that as every other world, this world has laws as well, it is governed by certain order, yet there is no doubt that it is closer to the architectonic chaos than to the organised cosmos. In this world everything can be connected with everything but if it is really so depends on a viewer, on what kind of fictional image he or she will read. Each can be right, each can be wrong, essential is just: to enjoy the pleasure of perceiving the sense formes.
