FACING HUMAN NATURE
Since the beginning of both their artistic carriers gallery NB has managed the Lithuanian painter Vilmantas Marcinkevicius and the Danish painter Jacob Brostrup. Their styles, techniques and motifs are very different but they both focus on a very essential subject - human nature (in the dual sense of human behaviour and man-made society). Prior to ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH the artists have agreed to challenge each others views and ways of creating art, under the title "Facing Human Nature". During their preparation for ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH they will work in close dialog, exchange criticism, ideas, inspire each other and in the end curate "the final duel".
PROFILE
"gallery NB Viborg focuses on contemporary painting. We exhibit artists that differ greatly in style but who share our passion for art. Our profile is defined by a core of artists who we manage closely and promote internationally. Our key artists are known by their personal and unique ways of expression that transcends waves of fashion and fancy. As an important undercurrent we exhibit an ever changing stream of young, experimental artists who deal with present topics and challenge the perceptions of classical art, the idea of the art institution and face the language of new media. This combination of established artists and upcoming talents is the keystone of our profile. It provides gallery NB with the possibility to show the highest quality of art and be an active part of the Nordic art scene." galleri NB
In a contemporary context Jacob Brostrup reinvents the experiments of the impressionists and adds new layers. Light and colour is the main focus in his paintings. The quiet studies of nature and time is fused with the depiction of the rumble of the big city.
Like the classical painters of the late 19th century Jacob Brostrup finds his motifs on educational travels. He searches for iconic views of city life as well as the odd angle. When painted the city scenes are exposed to an imaginary range of colour and light which infuses the motif with different moods and atmospheres and the feeling of pulsating movement.
In some of his late works Jacob Brostrup combines images of idyllic country landscapes with hectic city images and going against the perception that man is alienated in modern society his works signal connection and harmony between city- and country life.

The interaction between human beings and the art of portraiture are the trademarks of the artist Vilmantas. His subjects are partly social commentaries on Lithuanian society pre- and post liberation from The Soviet Union and partly personal and imaginary. This mixture is perhaps why the paintings of Vilmantas seem to transcend the fashion and trends of our time. They speak a universal language that appeal to people not only in Lithuania and Denmark but around the world.
Vilmantas paintings are unique in style and use of colour and although his motifs differ greatly one is never in doubt whether or not a painting is the work of Vilmantas.
During his career as an artist Vilmantas has dealt with different themes, all of which has resulted in solo exhibitions in the gallery and book publications.
