Introduction to Art Seasons Lake Zurich Gallery
Art Seasons is a group of four major art galleries with locations in Beijing, Singapore, Jakarta, and since 2007 also in Switzerland in Pfaeffikon, Lake Zurich.
Art Season's focus is mainly on contemporary Chinese art. We have been working in this area intensively since 2001 and today belong to the world's leading galleries for Chinese contemporary art. During the last years we had the privilege to present, both in group and solo shows, many of the most famous Chinese artists like Zhang Xiaogang, Liu Wei, Feng Zhengjie, Zhu Wei, Ma Liuming, Song Yonghong, Qiu Zhijie, Zhong Biao and many more.
Art Seasons exhibits at a number of international art fairs like Art Cologne, Art Shanghai, Art Beijing, Art Taipeh, Art Singapore and ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH. In our local gallery in Pfaeffikon, we present large scale art exhibitions every 2-3 months - often in cooperation with a curator. From August 24th, 2007 until end of October 2007, we are showing "Jasmine", a unique group show of 15 partly internationally already well-known Chinese contemporary artists.
We are convinced to have found a wonderful gallery space in the "Hagedorn-Building" in Pfaeffikon, SZ. The inherent tension and dynamics found between a living industrial environment and an art space are inspiring and exciting. Almost 500 sqm exhibition space and high ceilings allow us to present spectacular formats and artworks as well.
It is our aspiration for Art Seasons Lake Zurich to be the partner for enthusiasts for Chinese art in Switzerland as well as in Europe. From here, we aim to build you an easy accessible cultural bridge directly leading into Chinese art centers like e.g. Beijing, Chongqing, and Chengdu.
Künstler / Artists @ ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH
Zhong Biao
As one of the pioneers of contemporary Chinese art, Zhong Biao's avant-garde paintings juxtapose Eastern and Western elements into seeming incongruous compositions. Mostly portraits of fashionable, young women, he places his subjects amidst bizarre, almost sci-fi-like settings, further exaggerating the incongruence, and anachronism and distortion of the pictoral landscape.
Feng Zhengjie
The artist Feng Zhengjie has always been preoccupied with colour in painting, which is no surprise that his work is distinctively marked with a bright and vivid colour palette. Inspired by the Shanghai calendar-girls from the 1930s, Feng Zhengjie's girls are gaudy, Wharhol-esque variations on that theme. His recent works are mostly single portraits of beautiful, if sterile women in the prime of their youth and beauty. The women's sensuality are highlighted through his use of bold, dense colours on the visual markers such as their lips, hair and clothes.
Lin Hairong
Female artist Lin Hairong's paintings have a sense of quiet, dignified calm. Her subjects are often placed against a plain, flat backdrop. This enhances the preciseness of her brushwork and her attention to detail. It is very clear that the focus point of the composition has been determined by the artist. Using clear, undulated lines and muted colours, Lin's figures have an aged feel to them, like old photographs, however, they also have a child-like appearance which lends an air of innocence that seems almost out of place. The lines between memory, reality and fantasy are blurred.
Luo Qing
Trained at the prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, his artworks are well-received and collected in Europe, the United States, Singapore, and across Asia. He depicts the real China, the not so fancy landscapes, the people of the streets, the lower classes, and the poor, all of whom have been left behind during China's rapid urban and technological development. He paints them in strong colors, and expressive, forceful brushstrokes.
Liu Yuan
Liu Yuan's recent artworks display a rare quality of power and expressiveness. His painting "Meteor Shower" is certainly a major artwork within this series. Is Liu Yuan playing here a subtle play with a historic Liu Yuan, a former emperor of China, who in the context of a meteor shower was regaining the power for his clan? We may speculate, but what we know for sure is, that meteor showers in China are very auspicious and often are a sign for important changes to come.
Chi Peng
The young artist Chi Peng is becoming increasingly well-known in his native China for his provocative, many a times in-your-face photographs. He takes images of public spaces, urban spaces, and inserts his body, oftentimes stark naked, into them. In his photographs, the images of himself are always that of the body in motion. "He" always seems to be running away from the camera, or the viewer. There is a sense of urgency that permeates his work. The hyper-realistic mode Chi Peng's photographs highlight the rapid pace of the changing social scene. It is almost as if he puts "himself" in his photographs as a manifestation of the speed of change that even he cannot keep up with.
