"Art in Motion - For three days, Zurich's historic foundry hall once again became a vibrant hub for contemporary art. (...) ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH brought together artists, galleries, collectors, and interested members of the public from Switzerland and beyond. Dobrovolskaya-Mints Arbeit mit der Digitalfotografie löst die Bindungen zwischen dem Medium, dem Bild und seinen Fragmenten und verdeutlicht auf diese Weise einen Zweck angesichts von Unsicherheit und Verwirrung. Sie setzt sich mit diesen spezifischen Merkmalen der Digitalfotografie gemäss ihrer inneren künstlerischen Vision auseinander, Fotografien zu schaffen, die in die Seele des Universums blicken und sich mit der objektiven Realität des Kosmos verbinden, frei vom subjektiven Lärm der menschlichen Angelegenheiten. Die Menschen mögen sich für ihre Unterschiede feiern lassen, aber wir schauen alle auf dieselben Sterne.
Das künstlerische Schaffen von Sara De Pasquale zeichnet sich durch eine unverwechselbare Verschmelzung von Kreativität, Persönlichkeit und einer Prise Humor aus, die beim Betrachter das Gefühl hinterlässt, mehr zu wollen. Ihr visionärer Ansatz zeigt sich in ihrem charakteristischen und phantasievollen Stil, mit dem sie ihre kreativen Ideen erforscht und zum Ausdruck bringt. De Pasquale lebt und arbeitet derzeit in Zürich, wo sie ein vielfältiges Werk geschaffen hat, das den Betrachter fesselt und fasziniert.
Der Schwerpunkt der künstlerischen Arbeit «Variation of Nature» von Nicole und Karl Reber liegt in der abstrakten Landschaftsfotografie. Durch die Kombination unterschiedlicher Herangehensweisen und Interpretationen sowie die Verwendung verschiedener Materialien versucht das Künstlerpaar, eine neue Perspektive auf die Phänomene der Natur einzunehmen. Die durch fotografische Techniken erreichte Abstraktion führt zu einer Distanzierung der Bilder von den abgebildeten Gegenständen, intensiviert aber gleichzeitig die Wahrnehmung der veränderten Natur, die sich durch ein ungehemmtes Farbenspiel neu offenbart. Die Ausstellung mit dem Titel «Variation der Natur» zeigt eine Vielzahl von Interpretationen der Elemente Eis/Gletscher, Marmor, Sand, Stein und Wasser. Zu den Exponaten gehören die Eisgrotte des Rhône-Gletschers, Sanddünen aus Namibia, Marmor aus Naxos und Meeresmalereien aus Griechenland und Island.
Die Galerie CasaGalleria.ART präsentiert die neueste Serie des Künstlers Yuri Catania mit dem Titel «Yuri in Wonderland». Yuri Catania ist ein zeitgenössischer italienischer Künstler und Fotograf, dessen Werk eine ausgeprägte Affinität zu den Bereichen Fotografie, bildende Kunst und Design erkennen lässt. Er verwendet eine Vielzahl von Medien und stilistischen Ansätzen, die zu Werken führen, die einen unverwechselbaren Charakter haben und zum Nachdenken anregen. Sein eigener, unverwechselbarer Stil zeichnet sich durch eine Kombination aus digitalen und analogen fotografischen Techniken aus. Die Arbeiten des Künstlers sind häufig von Stadtlandschaften, Strassenkultur und sozialen Themen inspiriert und befassen sich häufig mit Fragen der Identität, der Konsumkultur und der Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Technologie. Yuri Catania ist ein Künstler, der die konventionellen Grenzen dessen, was als Kunst bezeichnet werden kann, in Frage stellt und ständig die Grenzen des Möglichen in der künstlerischen Praxis auslotet."

"Per la prima volta Carlo Zoli sarà protagonista a Zurigo partecipando all'Art International Zurich 2024, prestigiosa fiera di arte contemporanea giunta alla 26° edizione. Nel contesto della grande kermesse che ospita opere d'arte da tutto il mondo, presso lo stand n. 9 saranno presentate 12 magnifiche opere ceramiche realizzate dall'artista faentino Carlo Zoli negli ultimi anni, due delle quali inedite, che documentano la sua originale poetica ovvero la sua costante ispirazione al mito in chiave contemporanea; il pubblico potrà scoprirle non solo visitando la mostra ma anche attraverso discussioni e approfondimenti coinvolgenti che illustreranno le tematiche e il processo creativo alla base della sua arte. Attendees engaged directly with artists, gaining new insights through the exploration of their creative works, each of which held a story waiting to be uncovered.
Among the prominent artists featured this year was Yuri Catania, an Italian contemporary artist and photographer. His works reflected a deep connection to photography, contemporary art, and design, using a variety of media and artistic styles. His distinctive approach combined digital and analogue photographic techniques, prompting viewers to ponder the innovative nature of his creations.
Another artist was Mel Matteucci, an eighteen-year-old artist from Bern, Switzerland. Through street art and graffiti style, he created a deep dialogue with the environment around him, expressing emotions that resonated with viewers, transcending the boundaries of mere painting.
Jocelyn Akouba Matignon, a painter from Guadeloupe, France, presented a collection of pieces inspired by the spirituality and culture of the Maya. His works raise questions about the mysteries of life and human identity, regardless of location. Elements of mythology and the spirituality of Mesoamerican indigenous peoples, along with cultural heritage, inspired his new creations, inviting viewers to dive into a world of mystery and the absurd. His pieces, executed in acrylics, utilise layering techniques that symbolise different aspects of existence. The final layer of his work, often in white or black, represents his dream persona "Kiuqan," a term rooted in folklore, prompting reflection on identity and existence. His works feature a symbolic abstract style, with Maya ritual symbols dancing across the surfaces of his paintings like riddles waiting for the perceptive viewer to solve. His art captures the "invisible" and challenges viewers to contemplate the essence of their existence. Matignon is also an author who delves into research on sacred geometry, Mesoamerican mythology, Native American spirituality, symbolic figures, the power of Mother Earth, and what is invisible or hidden from our consciousness, alongside the illusion of the visible world. Matignon takes us into a realm of delicacy and the absurd, exploring the complex relationships between material and spiritual elements.
The Zurich International Art Fair 2024 featured a diverse array of galleries from London, Japan, France, Canada, South Korea, Italy, Germany, China, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland. Zurich is a leading centre for contemporary art in Europe, home to over 20 museums and more than 100 art galleries. With its picturesque atmosphere, significant commercial hub, and ease of access, Zurich attracted visitors from around the world, making it an ideal location for this prestigious art exhibition."

"Als die 24. ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH ihre Tore schloss, lag eine weitere erfolgreiche Saison hinter ihr. Die Kunstmesse im Oktober 2022 war erneut sehr gut besucht, viele Aussteller konnten gute Geschäfte abschliessen. Kontinuität zahlt sich aus. Auch in den Corona-Jahren konnte die ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH ihre Besucherzahlen halten. Von Zurückhaltung war in diesem Oktober keine Spur. Schon kurz nach der Eröffnung am Donnerstag drängten sich Sammler und Kunstinteressierte durch die Gänge. Auf sie wartete ein umfangreiches Angebot an exklusiven Kunstobjekten. Einmal mehr zeigte sich, dass die traditionsreiche ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH beim lokalen und nationalen Kunstpublikum grossen Anklang findet. So war die Messe während der gesamten Dauer stets gut besucht. Auch das schöne Wetter in Zürich tat dem Besucherinteresse keinen Abbruch. Die Aussteller verzeichneten gute Verkäufe, konnten Kontakte zu Sammlern und Kuratoren vertiefen und neue knüpfen. In den Werkgesprächen vor Ort war das Leben mit Kunst und die Bedeutung von Kunst auch in Krisenzeiten ein grosses Thema."

Rund 50 Galerien und Aussteller aus dem In- und Ausland werden präsent sein und vor allem zeitgenössische Kunstwerke aller Gestaltungrichtungen präsentieren. Darunter auch Fotografie. Sie hat ihren festen Platz in der Gegenwartskunst, und so sind die Werke von 15 Fotokünstlerinnen und Fotokünstler auf der Art International Zurich vertreten. Hinzu kommen sehr viele kombinierte Werke, bei denen fotografische Elemente unschwer zu erkennen sind, dann aber fantasievoll mit Farbe, Acryl oder anderen Materialien überarbeitet wurden.
Die Fotografin Anna Dobrovolskaya-Mints konzentriert sich in ihrem Fotoprojekt «Somewhere to Swim» (kuratiert von Cheryl Newman) auf leere und verlassene Schwimmbäder und bricht durch das zweidimensionale Bild mit der Vertrautheit dieser Orte. Es ist die Abwesenheit von Menschen, die die Hotelpools miteinander verbindet. In dieser Stille liegen Utopie und Dystopie nahe beieinander.
Alpengluehen art group (aag – Schweiz) verwendet verschiedene Techniken, um ein einzigartige Kunstwerke zu schaffen. Dazu gehören Fotografie, Computergrafik, Drucke, eigene Ölgemälde, Collagen, Lithografien und Zeichnungen in digitalisierter Form. Durch die Kombination dieser Techniken werden aussergewöhnliche Werke geschaffen.
Der Zürcher Künstler Martin Kaspar Bachmann (Wolfhausen, Schweiz) zeigt Fotografien und Skulpturen aus seinem Schaffen. Die Präsentation an der Kunstmesse Zürich umfasst Werke aus allen Schaffensperioden, vor allem Landschaftsaufnahmen, die von Drohnen aus verschiedenen Höhen aufgenommen wurden, im Grossformat auf Aluminium und Acryl. Die Skulpturen umfassen Arbeiten in Bronze, Gips, Kunststoff und Metall.
Casa Galleria Monte Generoso (Rovio, Schweiz) ist eine junge und innovative Kunstgalerie im Tessin. An der Art International Zurich 2022 präsentiert Casa Galleria Yuri Catania, Pierre Pellegrini, Lorita Preiano, Veronica Barbato, Laura Ceretti, Marshall Vernet und Marco Lupi. Marshall Vernet ist Fotograf aus den USA. Seine Fotografie ist von seiner Vorliebe für das französische Kino und die frühe europäische Schwarz-Weiss-Fotografie beeinflusst. Die Bilder haben eine dunkle Kraft, die den Look einer Kohlezeichnung mit dem des klassischen Film Noir verbindet. Die Fotografien scheinen gleichzeitig in der klassischen fotografischen Welt wie auch in der zeitgenössischen Welt der computergestützten Stilmittel verankert zu sein. Ebenfalls durch die Casa Galleria Monte Generoso vertreten ist Yuri Catania, ein schweizerisch-italienischer Künstler, Fotograf und Videoregisseur. Die Fotoserie «Black Flower Secret Garden» hat Catania als Hommage an die Blumen seines Gartens bei Nacht aufgenommen.
Die Galerie Adrienne Desbiolles (Zürich, Schweiz) stellt an der Art International Zürich Elisabeth Sunday mit Schwarzweiss-Fotografien vor. Die Fotografin ist bekannt für ihre Schwarzweissporträts von indigenen Völkern in Afrika und Asien. Sunday fotografiert auf Negativfilm und bearbeitet ihre Bilder nicht, auch verwendet sie keine digitalen Effekte. Elisabeth hat ihr eigenes analoges Verfahren entwickelt, das sie «Mirror Photography» nennt.
Die Galerie Elevate Art aus Frankfurt am Main zeigt neben diversen Werken die originelle Fotografie «Chicicastenango», welche eine eindrucksvolle indische Markszene von Maja Jehretrupp, alias Jamari Lior, darstellt. Die deutsche Fotokünstlerin ist Dozentin vorwiegend an indischen Hochschulen, wirkt als Autorin und arbeitet in ihrem Studio in Königswinter.
Alexandre Plattet präsentiert Fantasien mit Wasser. «Die Naturfotografie ist für mich ein Weg sie bestmöglich wiederzugeben, in manchmal unvorhersehbaren und privilegierten Momenten, wobei ich mich manchmal von Demjenigen geführt führe, der sie geschaffen hat: das Gefühl, am richtigen Ort und zur richtigen Zeit zu sein … Generell ist es Ziel meines künstlerischen Ansatzes, dazu beizutragen, Schönheiten in diese Welt zu bringen und meine künstlerische Freude zu teilen».
Der Schweizer Multimedia-Künstler Jean-François Réveillard hat für seine philosophische Kunst eine komplette virtuelle Welt, ein Metaversum mit Avataren und mixed reality Kunstwerken und NFT-Werken geschaffen. Für seine neue crossmediale Installation «Fashion Landscape» verwendet er nicht nur Videoclips, sondern auch Stoffe und 3D-Druck in einer Form, die Mode und Natur in einer Reflexion über Konsum und neue Medien zusammenführt. Réveillard präsentiert auf der Art International Zurich auch seine NFT-Kunstwerke und virtuellen Arbeiten.
Andreas Urscheler (Zürich, Schweiz) ist ein Künstler und Fotograf, der sich auf grossformatige, hochauflösende Kunstdrucke in limitierter Auflage spezialisiert hat. Urschelers Leidenschaft gilt der Handwerkskunst und Schönheit alter Scheunen und Hütten in hochalpinen und abgelegenen Gebieten der Schweizer Berge. Seine «Woodcuts» konzentrieren sich auf den Querschnitt der verwitterten und gespreizten Stämme an den Eckverbindungen der alten Hütten."

"What has Art Zurich 2022 brought us? In a post-pandemic period that has affected everyone equally, the international art fairs are reopening with great vigour, both on the part of the organisers and on the part of the artists and collectors who together are the driving force of the international art trade. While in Buenos Aires, arteba opened its doors for the first time in Costa Salguero, we went to Switzerland, where a new edition of Art Zurich, the international art fair in one of the countries experiencing constant economic growth, reopened with great vigour. With Art Basel as a reference point, the birthplace of the Bauhaus, where important museums are expanding their collections, the cradle of great writers, musicians and artists. Old universities, art in public spaces, fashion and design houses form the backdrop to everyday life. Living with art even in times of crisis was the focus of discussions at Art Zurich. The 24th Art International Zurich ended on a very positive note. "Not a trace of restraint", said the organisers. Collectors and art lovers filled the halls throughout the fair. The presence of the Asian public justified the high proportion of galleries from this region among the 80 participating countries. Exhibitors made good sales and strengthened their relationships with collectors and curators. Individual artists or their representatives were always accessible, despite language barriers. The young Swiss artist Chris Van Weidmann caught our attention with her original stories, illustrated with impeccable brushstrokes from micro to macro. Marshall Vernet's black and white photographs are influenced by surrealism. Born in New York, Vernet's photographic work reflects his experience of Hollywood cinema. In his most recent productions, he has worked with Robert De Niro, Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Keira Knightley and Mickey Rourke, among others. For another series, Marco Lupi has moved his studio to the Swiss Alps. "My process is a constant search in my head for images that come from the unconscious, between childhood memories, nostalgia and false banalities that interweave the past and the present? This creates a pleasant path that leads me to sensations and emotions that I try to capture on canvas," says the artist. Meanwhile, Annemarie Waibel's huge, colourful sculptures guard the entrance to the Congress Centre. Her female figures speak of diversity, inner beauty, natural strength, vulnerability, physicality and earthiness. At the same time, her works question the role of women in today's society. Satisfied with this edition, Art International Zurich informs us of the excellent prospects for 2023. It should come as no surprise, but for us Argentines it is surprising to see the publication of real prices and sales, which helps to make marketing more transparent and agile."

Hidden somewhere in a corner, among huge and impressive paintings I stumble into an island of innocence, as if forged by the hands of a child and yet very firm brushstrokes, strong colors and shades reflect a fully mature style. The colors rather dark and yet vibrant, maybe because of that tiny blue, enough to take me to Chagall. I turn around, looking for the artist and then she comes. With her shiny white hair and blue eyes Janka, the Polish artist resembles a little girl. Her words exude energy, tremendous joy and passion. I enjoy every minute listening to her. This woman is full of life while being a unique reflection of authenticity.
A fragment of African heritage is brought into the spotlight through artists like J Suyi, Muktair Oladoja and the sculptor Euwitt Nyanhongo. Using spring stone, Nyanga serpentine and partly Leopard rock and Lapidolite as well, Euwitt Nyanhongo's works incorporate the indestructible bond between human and nature. The artist resorts to the mythological world of spirits and ancient beliefs of the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe. In Muktair Oladoja's, Nigerian artist the mask, one of the most essential symbols of the traditional culture, becomes a central motif in his detailed monochromatic drawings. A multilayered mixed medium and dynamic colors are interweaving in the British Nigerian artist's, J Suyi's work. The young female artist is concerned with deep philosophical issues, the metamorphoses of life, as well as social issues, related to gender, the position of women is society and social expectations.
I strongly recommend you take your children along in this wonderful journey among artworks from every corner of the world. Not only they can inherently develop their affinities towards artistic mediums but while doing so, kids are very keen at identifying details that we adults easily overlook. My eight-year- old son drew my attention on the calligraphy hidden behind the works of Chris van Weidmann. Her world resembles a collection of postcards in which the motifs are constructed by means of tiny calligraphy. Feather, owl, insect, huge fingerprint, all filled with teeny-weeny words. Chris van Weidmann seems to be some sort of descendant of the pointillists, but instead of recreating the universe out of tiny points, she resorts to calligraphy. A pair of magnifying glasses are put at the disposal of the visitors, for those who are eager to take a closer look under the 'surface'."

Heiss war es natürlich auch, weil man an dieser internationalen Messe für zeitgenössische Kunst der einen oder anderen Bekannten begegnet, mit der man nicht gerechnet hat. Zum Beispiel Mona Lisa. Einmal im Kleinformat, nach dem sie Kirschen gegessen hat, einmal im Grossformat, diesmal zusammengesetzt aus lauter briefmarkengrossen Fotos von nackten Menschen. Auch Vermeers «Mädchen mit dem Perlenohrgehänge» hat in diesem Zusammenhang einen Auftritt. Solche Gags gehören zu einer Kunstmesse, die für jeden Geschmack etwas zu bieten hat, egal ob kitschverliebt, der Tradition verpflichtet, edeldesignmässig oder eher avantgardistisch orientiert.
Unter dem Label «Exklusive Kunst» wird im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes hochkarätige Reliefkunst angeboten. Die Ausnahme, die Art International Zurich ist eine Publikumsmesse, die einen farbigen Galerien- und Atelierquerschnitt bietet. Dutzende Galerien und Einzelkünstler aus nicht ganz aller Welt, aber doch aus weiten Teilen der Schweiz und ganz Europas sind vertreten, darunter Russland, die Ukraine, Tschechien oder Spanien, darüber hinaus Indien, Japan, Kanada. Da kann man denn eine «Sirene en sac» kaufen, ein Unikat aus Acryl; sehr realistische Tiger, die über Leinwände tigern; virtuos gemalte Akte; erhabene Streifenkunst oder polyglotte Zaubermaschinen eines Erinnerungskünstlers aus Budapest. «Die Liebe ist der Grund des Lebens», «Das Schicksal lenkt die tiefen Gefühle», lauten die entsprechenden Bildtitel. Und dagegen lässt sich kaum etwas einwenden."
